Breaking News - Rolando Villazón withdraws from new production of Manon at Covent Garden

The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden has announced today in a press release that the Mexican tenor Rolando Villazón has withdrawn from the role of Chevalier des Grieux in the new production of Manon which will start in June 2010, starring Anna Netrebko in the title role.

Rolando Villazón said that he considers the role too strenuous to perform so soon after his recuperation from the surgery he was subjected to remove a cyst on one of his vocal chords.

The role of Chevalier des Grieux will now be sung by Italian tenor Vittorio Grigòlo who makes his debut with the Royal Opera in the role.
